A Different Time and a Different Place

Today as I'm sitting in the car line at the school to pick up Taylor my mind goes to racing. Racing back to a different time and a different place. It was those special years for me as a young boy in which I attended my first days at school.

It was a time and place where as a kid you could ride your bike or walk to school at pretty much any age without your parents going with you.

These days you dare not let your kids go anywhere by themselves for that matter.

It was a time and place where you could leave your doors unlocked and not lose a minutes sleep over it.

These days you can't even walk away from your door without locking it and still you double check it.

It was a time and place where security systems in homes had no value.

These days you get a discount off of your home owner's insurance for having one.

It was a time and place where a school was really a school with windows and all.

These days a school is like a prison, no windows and police officer's guarding the entrance's and exit's.

It was a time and place where the big news at school was when the next program was (kids singing for those who don't know).

These days the big news at school is how many kids were killed in the last shooting.

I could go on, but I choose not to depress you further.

So as I sit waiting in my car, I immediately say a prayer for my sweet Taylor and all the other kids who must now live their lives in these days. God, please be with them. Protect their innocence, keep them safe, and always always bring them home. All these things I pray in your name. Amen.

If you read this, please say a prayer for all our kids for they do live in a different time and a different place.

Our Sweet Addison Clare

Here are some pics of Addison with Mommy and Daddy (Lindsay and Nathan). Please continue to pray for her health as well as her safety as she begins her new life.

Trip to the Beach!

We took the kids to the beach in galveston after Taylor's doctor's appointment so they could play a bit. Neither of them had ever experienced the powerful waves of the ocean water, so it was fun to watch them try and keep their balance. It was of course even more difficult for Will, but like a trooper he kept venturing out to try to get to Taylor even though he was quickly and often knocked down by the waves. They had a great time playing in the sand and looking for shells. We tried to find sand dollars, but all we could come up with was a few pieces. Seems as though the locals come out first thing in the morning and sweep them all of the beach to sell to the gift shops. Hope you enjoy the pics!

The best piece we could find.

Addison Clare Mathews Birth and Prayer Request

She is finally here! Addison Clare Mathews was born in Corpus Christi, Texas today August 25, 2008 at 3:05pm. She weighed in at a healthy 6 pounds 10 ounces. Mommy is well and recovering from what is always difficult, child birth. We are so excited about the newest addition to our family. She is the daughter of Lindsay (Carey's sister) and Nathan Mathews, and is their first child.

Addison has been having some difficulty breathing and has been put in the Neonatal ICU (Baby Intensive Care Unit). So we ask that you please lift her up in your prayers, that God will bless and heal her little body as she begins her journey in this world. All of your prayers are greatly appreciated during this difficult time. I will update the blog on any changes and progress as we learn of it. Thank you in advance for your prayers.

God please bless this new member of our family with health, happiness, and love as she starts the journey of what it sure to become a beautiful life. Be with her in her recovery to provide her comfort, and lay your healing hands upon her so that her little lungs develop and heal quickly so that she might breath properly as soon as possible. Give Lindsay and Nathan peace during this time knowing that Addison is in your hands. Be with all our family and keep us strong during these times. We pray all these things in your most holy blessed name, Amen.

Again, please spread the word to get Addison on all of the prayer list you know of. Your prayers are very much appreciated.

Update on Craig

We would like to thank all of you who have been in prayer for Craig during this very difficult time. He has been doing very well. He was removed from the ventilator and has now been admitted to a room at Health South for therapy. We are very grateful that God is blessing him with what seems like will be a full recovery. Again thank you all so much for your prayers and please continue to do so during his rehabilitation that there are no setbacks.

Lesson Learned

Long ago during a sports season I think, we told Taylor that it is ok to fail but not to quit. The "you always miss 100% of the shots you don't take" philosophy. The saying went, Thompson's NEVER quit. So we live by that rule. And nothing has really been said about it since then. It has just kind of been a rule of the house if you will. Since then it has been quite some time.

Fast forward to today. I am playing tag with Taylor since she is bored to tears since she can't go outside due to rain. She hasn't got me yet, but I get tired of running around and tell her that "I quit" as I needed a break from the running around. She promptly responds as follows:

"QUIT!!? But Thompson's NEVER QUIT!"

Lesson learned Taylor, lesson learned.

Rainforest Cafe in Galveston

Today after Taylor's doctor's appointment we took the kids to lunch at The Rainforest Cafe. They had a great time for the most part as Taylor loved it, however once Will saw that a few other kids got scared by the animals once they came to life, he decided to be scared too. He was really having fun up until that point, so we didn't get many good pictures of him.
